The Impact of New Running Gear Technologies upon Vehicle-Track Interaction

This paper assesses the impact of a number of potential innovations in the running gear of a railway vehicle upon the wheel-rail interface. Innovations including light-weighting of vehicles and better control of the wheel-rail interface as developed in recent research projects are considered.
